The Princely Court from Târgoviște

The Princely Court Monumental Ensemble can be easily classified as the emblematic objective of the city of Târgoviște.

The Princely Court was founded on the initiative of the great ruler Mircea cel Batran. He moved the capital of Wallachia to Targoviste. The decision was made for strategic reasons: the city being "under the mountain", people could decide whether to resist in battle or retreat to the mountains until the Ottoman armies, weakened by lack of resources, gave up the battle. Also, another of his thoughts was to build in Targoviște a palace for his son and to put customs for the goods passing through the area.

If we mention only a few sound names in history, we see that Vlad Țepes, Petru Cercel, Matei Basarab or Constantin Brâncoveanu were the main actors in the history of the Princely Court.

During this period, the Princely Court of Târgoviște is in a process of restoration and conservation, but it can be partially visited.

Details can be found at the National Center for Tourist Information and Promotion Târgoviște, at the telephone number 0245633341 or at the e-mail address targovistea-turistica@gmail.com.
