Stelea Monastery

A lesser known aspect about Stelea Monastery is the uniqueness of the painting. It is one of the few Orthodox churches in which the walls are only partially painted. The current painting, made in 1705-1706 by "Pătrașcu Painter", is in Brancoveanu style. The first painting of the church, erected in 1645, did not survive due to the fire of 1658, when the original iconostasis of Moldavian origin was lost. However, the paintings retain the established iconographic program.

Another unique aspect, related to painting, is represented by the floral motifs of Arab-Persian origin that adorn the walls of the church, probably made at the request of Constantin Brâncoveanu.
