International Day of Zoos and Parks

In order to mark the importance of biodiversity conservation, every year, on August 9, the International Day of Zoos and Parks is celebrated.

The city of Târgoviște prides itself on the zoo whose beginnings date back to the Middle Ages, when Petru Cercel brought Italian specialists to arrange, in the area near the Princely Palace, beautiful Italian gardens and, according to foreign traveler Franco Sivori, to make large cages as "shelter for wild animals."

There are also two parks in the city: the Metropolitan Park, delimited by Libertății Blvd. and Mircea cel Bătrân Blvd., arranged at the end of the 19th century, in the central area, on a plot of land that was part of the garden that once surrounded the church. The Metropolitan Church, and that of Chindia, located in 1970, on the former royal garden behind the Princely Court.
